The World Public Forum «Dialogue of Civilizations» was one of Russian Translation Company’s very first projects. In 2008, RPK provided simultaneous and consecutive interpretation at two of the Forum’s regional conferences.
Bahrain Dialogue
The first was the Bahrain Dialogue International Conference in Manama, Bahrain, in January 2008, where we provided simultaneous interpretation into Arabic, English, and Russian. The roundtable discussions covered a wide range of topics, from medicine, science and innovation to civil society and intercultural dialogue. We also provided consecutive interpretation services at receptions and press conferences attended by the Forum leadership.
The Conference was attended by more than 300 scholars, cultural figures, environmentalists, and members of various religions and confessions.
The World Public Forum (WPF) «Dialogue of Civilizations» was established in 2002 to study global problems and look for solutions to them. In 2013, it was granted a special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council.
Education as a Dialogue Model of Social Development
Our second «Dialogue of Civilizations» conference took place in Ottawa, Canada, in June 2008, and was devoted to education. Around 100 leading experts from Austria, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States took part in the event.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (the country’s foreign affairs department) was initially supposed to take care of simultaneous interpretation duties at the conference. But it turned out shortly before the event that the department couldn’t provide the required language pairs. The organizers asked Russian Translation Company for help. Within very limited time, we put together a team of local English<>Russian<>French interpreters.
In addition to simultaneous interpretation, we provided language support for dignitaries in attendance. Despite the time difference, RPK employees also quickly translated the final declaration of the conference.
