We had big aspirations when we set up Russian Translation Company. One of our goals was to work at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF). It took us two years to achieve it: we caught the eye of the Forum’s organizers at the Sochi International Investment Forum and they invited us to take part in a tender.
In 2010, we provided language services at the first of what would be ten consecutive SPIEFs for us. And it was more than that! During that time, the operator of SPIEF had grown into the Roscongress Foundation that holds dozens of events per year. This made us grow, too. Russian Translation Company provided language services at the following events, to name just a few:

· Arctic: Territory of Dialogue International Arctic Forum (2017)
· Russian Energy Week (2017–2018)
· World Festival of Youth and Students (2017)
· Russian Investment Forum (2017 and 2019)
· Open Innovations Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development (2015)
· Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (2013)
· Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (2017)
· Global Manufacturing and Industrialisation Summit (2019)
· Russia House at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland (2018)
· series of events held as part of Russia’s presidency of APEC, SCO, BRICS, and the Arctic Council.
Russian Translation Company was responsible for simultaneous interpretation of all the sessions, coordination of interpreters at the plenary session, consecutive interpretation for partners of the Foundation and other participants, as well as translation, editing, proofreading, and audio and video transcription.
The Roscongress Foundation is a very demanding customer.
· There are no breaks for weekends and sometimes they need round-the-clock support.
· Deadlines may be very tight: some texts have to be translated within 30 minutes, while interpretation during events is sometimes required «here and now.»
· Languages requested may be quite rare, including Mongolian and Myanmar at the level of heads of state.
· Even a double space or the wrong type of dash may be considered an error that must be corrected.
World Festival of Youth and Students
The record-setting World Festival of Youth and Students took place in Sochi in October 2017. It was attended by 25,000 participants, including high-ranking guests from all sectors. The topics discussed ranged from the fight against imperialism to the secrets of successful entrepreneurs, from medicine to aircraft building, from arts to artificial intelligence.
Communication in all the official languages of the United Nations required 193 interpreters, plus volunteers. The programme for each day was compiled the night before, so we had just a few sleepless hours to provide individual schedules to each interpreter. Our internal software, nicknamed Marusya, came in handy!
At the same time, the 137th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union was taking place in St. Petersburg, involving approximately 30 RPK interpreters. Based on this experience, we can confidently say that Russian Translation Company is able to provide over 200 interpreters at a time.
In addition to interpretation and translation services, RPK provided equipment for simultaneous interpretation in some of the rooms. Our in-house engineers were responsible for the setup and technical support in the run-up to and during the festival.
What Next?
In 2019, the Roscongress Foundation established its own language services division. But this hasn’t put an end to our cooperation. Russian Translation Company continues to provide translation, editing, and proofreading services, audio and video transcription, and interpretation and technical support during satellite events in Blagoveshchensk, China, Gorno-Altaysk, and Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
