In 2023, we won a UNCTAD/WTO International Trade Centre contract to provide Russian–English simultaneous interpretation for a training course on WTO accession negotiation rules. The five-day event took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and was attended by 29 government officials from 11 countries, including Azerbaijan, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Curaçao, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Iraq, Serbia, Timor-Leste, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The range of topics discussed during the course was broad – from import and export duties to sanitary and phytosanitary measures to intellectual property rights.
Due to the existing visa restrictions, we could not reasonably expect to use interpreters from Russia. Thankfully, Russian Translation Company has a large pool of conference interpreters living abroad, so we were able to staff the event with interpreters from Europe.
The World Trade Organization (WTO) is an international organization responsible for global trade. It develops and introduces trade agreements and oversees compliance with them.
Uzbekistan’s Accession to the WTO
The client was so impressed with the work of our RPK interpreters that we were later invited to work at the Eighth and Ninth Working Party Meetings on the Accession of Uzbekistan to the WTO. These also took place in Geneva, so we engaged handpicked conference interpreters from Europe once again. We are privileged to have many of them across multiple countries and languages.
